Whether perched on the bed of a pickup truck, patiently standing along the route or comfortably seated in a lawn chair on their own front yards, hundreds of NFISD patrons and community supporters lined Homestead Road on Nov. 14 to watch the annual NFISD Pride Parade, which was the highlight of North Forest ISD Pride Week.

Every North Forest ISD school took part in the parade with bands, dance teams, cheerleaders, drum corps and campus royalty displaying their talent to the crowd’s delight.

And what’s a parade without throws? Board President George McShan and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrain Johnson were all smiles, waving to onlookers and throwing candy treats to parade goers as they navigated the route along Homestead Road from Tidwell to Little York.

NFISD Pride Week, organized by the Fine Arts Department, is held annually to strengthen the bond between NFISD and the community it serves, to increase parental involvement, develop a sense of pride among NFISD students and to motivate students to achieve academically. In addition to NFISD schools, Pride Parade participants included a variety of community organizations, area civic clubs and even motorcycle groups.

“To see so many parents and supporters at this year’s parade is especially significant,” Dr. Johnson said. “This is an important time in North Forest ISD’s existence. There are so many new and exciting things happening here, and community support is central to it all.”

In addition to the parade, Pride Week also included the annual NFISD Band Extravaganza, Student Exchange Day and a Pride Week essay contest
