Flight delayed at Bush by fugitive otters

Flight delays around the holidays are nothing new at Bush Airport. Flight delays caused by sea otters...less common. But that's exactly what happened when at least two sea otters escaped from their cages on the cargo bay of a Continental flight and ran onto the tarmac.

    From the Chronicle story:

At least two otters making the trip from Houston to Columbus, Ohio, aboard a Continental Airlines flight last night managed to get loose in the cargo hold and on the tarmac, delaying takeoff until they could be rounded up.

Flight 1294 was delayed after the mammals broke out of their cages. WBNS-TV in Columbus interviewed passengers upon arrival, and some reported they saw one of the animals race across the tarmac. Another said he believed an otter got into coffee he had stowed in his luggage.

The Chronicle's Bill Montgomery has more.
