According to Chronicle correspondent Jeff Jenkins, the Washington Lady Eagles have dominated their division the last few years and are once again looking to take a strong team into the playoffs.
From the article:
Washington head girls basketball coach Sylvia Anderson has high standards. It takes a lot to impress the Eagles' veteran coach, whose squads have dominated District 22-4A for the past five years.
Although Anderson has another athletic squad capable of winning the league title, she is taking a pragmatic approach to this season.
“We have some good players, but only three of them are back from last year,” Anderson said. “We're still not where we need to be.”
Washington's record stood at 7-4 heading into the McDonald's All-Star Invitational last week in Bryan-College Station. But the Eagles were still 3-0 in District 22-4A after an exciting 61-60 victory over Worthing earlier this month.
“We're happy to be 3-0, but we're not a sure thing,” said Anderson, looking ahead to battles against area-ranked Wheatley and the rematch with Worthing.
