Forest Brook teacher is NFISD's Employee of the Month

From a North Forest ISD press release:

Ms. Betty Rasmus, an eighth grade English Language Arts teacher at Forest Brook Middle School, has been named NFISD’s January Employee of the Month. For the past 30 years, she has served as the English Language Arts Department chair, responsible for developing, curriculum, instruction and guidance.

Her positive attitude and love of teaching and children are reflected in the outstanding quality of the English Language Arts Department at Forest Brook Middle School.

“Ms. Rasmus has earned the title of employee of the month because she has truly worked to make Forest Brook Middle School and North Forest ISD better places to work and learn,” says Forest Brook Principal Rubye Gilbert.

Ms. Rasmus was nominated for the honor along with employees from across the district. All of the nominees were recognized at the NFISD Board of Managers meeting on Jan. 19, where Ms. Rasmus was named as the district-wide Employee of the Month.

Ms. Rasmus demonstrates the highest level of professional commitment and skills in her work with students and colleagues. To carry out her professional responsibility, she gives generously of her time, and often her work extends beyond the school day. During her 36 years in North Forest ISD Ms. Rasmus has sponsored and coordinated several programs to motivate students.

In addition to coordinating the Paw Pals Food Drive and spearheading the annual penny drive to benefit Covenant House for abused and runaway teens, Ms. Rasmus organized the Forest Brook Middle School Campus Beautification Project.

Through Ms. Rasmus’ enthusiasm, hard work and coaching, one or more of her students has placed first in UIL Modern Oratory every year for the last 12 years. In 2009, her students took three 1st place trophies, one each in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
