From a North Forest ISD press release:
North Forest High School will host an eighth-grade course selection fair from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 at the high school, 10725 Mesa Dr.
The fair is designed to provide students who will begin the freshman year in high school in the 2010-2011 school year an opportunity to learn more about the classes that are available to them. All current eighth grade students at Forest Brook Middle School and B.C. Elmore Middle School, along with their parents, are encouraged to attend this event.
Each discipline will showcase their program offerings to provide students with insight on the available courses so that they will be armed with vital information when the time comes for them to make course selections.
Students who enter 9th grade in 2010-2011 school year will be required to earn a minimum of 22 credits in order to be eligible for graduation. In addition to core courses in mathematics, English, social studies, science and other requirements in physical education, speech, economics and fine arts, students must also select elective courses.
Students also have the option of following the Recommended or Distinguished programs, each of which requires a student to earn 26 credits in order to be eligible for graduation.
At North Forest High School, counselors assist students in making course choices and give them career recommendations, where possible. Parents are also urged to discuss their students’ course options with them.
