Volunteer attorneys will provide advice and counsel on consumer issues at a free legal advice clinic on Saturday, March 6, and will answer calls from the public about tax issues on Tuesday, March 9.
On March 6, from 9:00 a.m. until noon, attorneys will answer questions on consumer topics including mortgages, foreclosure, bankruptcy, credit problems and other consumer issues at a legal clinic at the Spring Branch Family Development Center, 8575 Pitner, 77080. Any Harris County resident may receive advice and counsel on a consumer issue. If it is determined that further legal assistance is needed, those who meet low-income eligibility guidelines will be assigned a pro bono attorney through the HBA’s Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program. No appointment is necessary, and participants should bring any documentation that may be relevant to their consumer issue.
On March 9, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00, volunteer attorneys will answer questions from the public about tax issues in the annual “Tax-A-Thon.” This is a call-in program only, and the public should call 713-759-1133 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. to speak to an attorney knowledgeable in tax law.
For more information on either program, call the HBA’s Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program at 713-228-0732.
