From a North Forest ISD press release:
Forest Brook Middle School students have teamed up with the Xi Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Lily Grove Baptist Church to continue Haitian relief efforts, donating more than 200 shoeboxes full of toiletries to the victims of the earthquake.
The students will donate the filled shoe boxes at 9:30 am on April 22, 2010 at in the library of Forest Brook Middle School located at 7525 Tidwell Houston, Texas.
“This is what learning is all about. Our students have experienced natural disaster before and can relate to the students in Haiti,” said Forest Brook Principal Rubye Gilbert. “I am so proud that they were not just empathetic, but they decided to do something about it.”
The student donations will be transported to Lily Grove Baptist Church, which has a sister church in Haiti. The church has made several trips to the devastated island to assist with the relief efforts and will send the boxes on its next trip.
“Haiti is in dire need of our help. Many of our young people may not have much to give, they give anyway. That is what makes us proud of them,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrain Johnson said. “I challenge all young people in our District and our community to get involved.”
