NFISD hosts North Forest Day on Aug. 14

From a North Forest ISD press release:

North Forest Independent School District is encouraging the entire North Forest community to participate in this year’s district-wide community cleanup on Saturday, August 14, 2010.

North Forest ISD’s Community Clean-up will serve as the prelude to the Back-to-School Family Festival and Family Empowerment Conference. The clean-up will take place throughout the North Forest community.

The rally begins at 8:00 am at Forest Brook Middle School, 7525 Tidwell Road. The clean-up will immediately follow. While the district has organized an annual Back-to-School festival for the past several years, the Family Empowerment Conference and Community Rally & Clean-Up are new components of the event.

“Our goal is to make the community, especially the areas surrounding our campuses inviting as our students prepare to return to school,” NFISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrain Johnson says.

The Festival and Family Empowerment Conference will start at noon at Forest Brook Middle School. The Festival will feature free food, entertainment and children’s activities. The Family Empowerment Conference will offer information, resources and mini-workshops on topics designed to empower families and children.

NFISD will also conduct its school supply and school uniform give-a-way during the Festival. In an effort to supply at least 1,000 students in the district with school uniforms and school supplies, the district is partnering with Northeast neighborhood groups, civic clubs, and other agencies, businesses and organizations.

Several sponsors have already pledged their support to this event, including Jamail & Smith Construction.

NFISD is actively seeking other organizations to assist in the school uniform and supply give-a-way. For more information on joining the effort, please call 713-491-1047.

“Our district is the center of this community. Families look to it for support and we strive to continue to be there for our students when they need us,” Dr. Johnson says. “We want to help our students get a fresh start for school and offer resources and information at the conference for our families in need.”

To donate for uniforms and school supplies or to volunteer for the clean-up, register online at www.nfisd.orgor call 713-491-1047.
